There will be a rally to show support for Lorne Ave Public School at 6:30, this Tuesday, November 26 at the Thames Valley Education Centre, 1250 Dundas Street, and the Save Lorne Ave campaign urges you to attend and to bring or invite as many people as you can.

The "final vote" on the future of Lorne Ave PS is scheduled for this Tuesday, when the school board trustees will have one last opportunity to save the school or adopt the administration recommendation to close it in 2015.

The rally is scheduled for the half-hour before the meeting, and you are encouraged to attend, to fill the gallery afterward, and to show your commitment to this valuable community institution and your belief in its value to our children, our families, our community, and our city.

The rally is co-sponsored by Save Lorne Ave and Save AJ Baker, a community group dedicated to saving their own school in Kintore.  For more information, email  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Minutes of the Old East Village Community Association's 2013 annual general meeting will be distributed to the membership in time for a review before the 2014 annual general meeting, but the executive is making this more complete summary account of the meeting available, especially for the benefit of those unable to attend.

Draft Summary of the OEVCA AGM 2013-9-25 (PDF)

by OEVCA President Jenny Diplock

The Old East Village has been presented a unique opportunity to continue defining itself, and all Villagers are invited to participate.

Starting in 2014, the OEV will be the subject of a "Neighbourhood Safety Plan" facilitated by the City of London, but made up of people who live, work, and play in the Village. The attendees of an initial, exploratory meeting voted to include ANYONE who is willing to be a part of this initiative throughout the process. That means committing to a meeting once a month for 6 months with the first meeting Thursday, 23 January, 2014.

This is an opportunity to create an "Old East Solution" to the real and perceived issues that affect the OEV, but only if Villagers get engaged, and so the OEVCA strongly encourages all members of the community to be a part of this task force. No other political experience or interest is required: just a willingness to work with others to make the Old East Village a great place to visit, and an even better place to live.

Please note, this is a task force "of the people," facilitated by the City, and the OEVCA is not in charge. To join up and serve as a citizen, email  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or call 519-661-5336 by December 20, 2013.  You may also email or call the city if you have further questions.

Feel free to share this invitation amongst your own Old East Village contacts, and thank you for considering this important task. I look forward to seeing many of you at the first meeting January 23rd.

Jenny Diplock

The Old East Village is co-sponsoring a Town Hall Meeting with the Old East Village Business Improvement Area and the London InterCommunity Health Centre. The meeting is to be held Monday, October 7th from 7pm-9pm at Lorne Ave Public School.  As you may know, during the consultations about the potential closure of Lorne Ave PS, the LIHC suggested it might be able to purchase and sever a portion of the school to re-locate some programs there, subject to Lorne Ave remaining open.

The Town Hall Meeting is intended to provide the community at large an opportunity to ask questions and provide input into this proposal.  The OEVCA does not have a position on this proposal yet, as no details of the proposal have yet been confirmed, but we do support the gathering of public input on a decision this big and we will be listening as carefully as you are.
